The Known Universe takes viewers from the Himalayas through our atmosphere and the inky black of space to the afterglow of the Big Bang. Every star, planet, and quasar seen in the film is possible because of the world’s most complete four-dimensional map of the universe, the Digital Universe Atlas that is maintained and updated by astrophysicists at the American Museum of Natural History. The new film, created by the Museum, is part of an exhibition, Visions of the Cosmos: From the Milky Ocean to an Evolving Universe, at the Rubin Museum of Art in Manhattan through May 2010. When astronomers could not understand how the sun revolves around the Earth, which is to them was a fairytale, then east as the sun changes the seasons and at the north pole or the south, the sun never rises and 6 months of dark and vice versa, they invented the earth’s axis and the solar system but! – The sun revolves around the earth (every day), as in a spiral path, parallel to the equator, rise and descend from the equator, to keep the same distance from Earth changes the seasons and years.

I don’t look at it as our insignificance but rather that we have so much to learn. So much to do.

I know this’ll sound a bit daft and I’m sure this has been asked before, but why is it we assume there aren’t any species living on the planets we consider uninhabitable? I mean, we couldn’t survive on Jupiter, but surely there’s some species that can; there are lifeforms on our own planet that don’t survive in the same conditions that we do (fish or penguins for example – daft, i know). It just seems like we’re looking in the wrong places for life

We humans must realize our own insignificance in the grand scheme of the Universe

Also remember folks that believing in Atheism is just as big a leap of faith as Theism. You can’t prove there is a God, and you can’t prove that there isn’t. Agnosticism is a position on knowledge; mostly that we can’t know.

Read what Albert Einstein said about science and religion. He’s a very wise and profound man.

Mostly, peace and love to everyone reading my humble sophisms, and may the Trinity bless you and keep you, and make his face shine upon you

I hate some people are content to think of the big bang as the start of the Universe. This violates the law of the conservation of energy.

There has to have been a first mover. Something that started it all. I don’t know how you can reconcile the infinite regress without giving into a creator.

You can give me science all day long. I love science. This was an amazing video outlining the wondrous achievement of science in order to try and make as much sense as we can of God’s creation.

@MontegoFilms and would he help us?? It depends if you believe in the god of the “Bible”. I think the problems of the world are our fault, so why whould anybody interfiere? Probably he´s very bussy creating other worlds :p

@michaelmusica God, not the probability game now.. Simply put, yes, we are all here against all the odds. For this, you should be excessively proud and appreciative of your ancestors, every single last one of them; from your grandmother, to your distant ancestor who swam in a sea with similar single celled organisms, they all conquered the terrors of life and successfully replicated their DNA unto the next generation.

@michaelmusica Coincidence plays a minor role, but to anyone who understands natural selection, it is nothing less than spectacular. It is important to note that it is not the Universe that is fashioned for us; it is we who are fashioned for the Universe.

In regards to our cities, our computers, our ideas, our technology and our cozy warm bedrooms, the only being worthy of reverence is ourselves. And here I thought this was common knowledge…

@michaelmusica ‘We are going to die, and that makes us the lucky ones. Most people are never going to die because they are never going to be born. The potential people who could’ve been here in my place, but who will never see the light of day, out number the sand grains of the Sahara… In the teeth of these stupefying odds, it is you and I, in our ordinariness, that are here.

@michaelmusica We privileged few, who won the lottery of birth against all odds, how dare we whine at our inevitable return to that prior state from which the vast majority have never stirred.’

@MontegoFilms So we humans are here against all odds, you say mosy of the uniuverse is inhospitable yet we are here chatting in a warm bedroom. How could this be a coincidence? all the cities, computers, ideas, nature, technology, all the order in this huge system, how could all this be a mere coincidence? I would need huge faith to believe that.

btw, your English is just fine.
Okay…First of all It’s not God’s fault that there is hate, fights, war, and stupid idiots in the world. Secondly, I don’t know everything – no one does. Thirdly, it is man who has messed things up. We are responsible for all the bad stuff in the world. We all do bad things. Have you ever lied? stolen? lusted? cheated? I could go on. God can’t look on this. It takes us believing in His Son Jesus to make us whole. God is love. Man has messed it up.
